Ahoy Members!

A huge shout out to thank all the members who volunteered to cook, decorate and bartend at the Halloween Party. There are too many to name, but you know who you are. The club looked awesome, the food was fantastic, the drinks were flowing and the costumes were amazing. Thank you to The 7th Sons for keeping the dance floor hopping.

Welcome back to Ernie Bergman, who after a short stint in the hospital, lost 10 pounds and looks great. He worked the front door at the Halloween party all night greeting guests, collecting money and handing out wrist bands and drink tickets. Thanks Ernie.

I also want to thank Director, Bill Walsh and his team for taking care of October's Watch. Up this month as Watch Captain is your Commodore. Almost everyone with a last name beginning with A or B are on my watch. I will be in contact with you all. :-)

A special thank you must go to our new member, Thomas Madsen. He bought the club a modern security system with four (4) high resolution night vision cameras that will be installed outdoors. The club will purchase indoor cameras to be connected to the system as well.

In lieu of Change of Watch (because there are no changes), we will be celebrating princess Mia's birthday with a surf & turf dinner tomorrow at the General Meeting, Thursday, November 3rd. Four new members will be inducted and one new member introduced. Please be here to welcome them to the club!

And lastly, my sincerest condolences to Renate and to all of our club members on the passing of Mike Levin. He joined SRYC on July 7, 1987 and served the club as commodore, auxiliary member and most recently director. He was one of the nicest guys I'd ever met. Mike was one of the good ones and will be sorely missed. Information on his memorial service is below.

    AUXILIARY APPLICATION
    IMG_1073
The annual Auxiliary Christmas Party is Friday, December 9th. Information will be forthcoming on attending and what you can do to participate.

Some of our newer members may not be familiar with what the Auxiliary does with the profits we make when we schedule an event at the club. Our theme has always been “for the good of the club” and over the years we’ve purchased items we thought would be beneficial to the club and make it an even better place to spend time and enjoy the many benefits to being part of the SRYC.
The Auxiliary is open to all members and their significant others. Traditionally the Auxiliary leans towards family related activities. We organize Christmas parties, theme dinners (i.e., Italian nights, Cook Your Own Steak nights, Karaoke evenings) and many other fun-filled events. The goal is always to provide enjoyment and opportunities for fund raising.

Dues are only $20/year and are payable to SRYCA. Just place your application and dues in the office mail slot.

    ERNIE'S IDIOMS

“I’ve got it in the bag”

    ErnieB
Origin: Although there are other recorded uses, the version of this idiom that has become so widely accepted came about thanks to the old New York Giants (now San Francisco Giants) baseball team.

It began as a superstition. In 1916 the Giants had a run of 26 consecutive wins. A bag filled with 72 extra baseballs would be put on the playing field at the beginning of each game. These balls were used to replace any that were hit into the seats or any that became too dirty.

The Giants, during this crazy winning streak, fell under the impression that if they were in the lead during the ninth (last) inning, carrying the ball bag off the field would ensure their win because, according to the team, they had captured the game in the bag.

    City Dredging News

    David Sullivan & Paul Bentzen
Now that the City has agreed to pay for our dredging and not require reimbursement, we're just waiting for the dredge to reach the turning basin and begin dredging under our docks!

Although it is now November, as of last week, the dredge had only made it past Lock Lomand Yacht Club.
It was a very Happy Halloween with an abundance of members & guests dressed in ingenious costumes and having a ton of fun!
If you have more photos of the party, text or email them to the webmaster for the club's Halloween photo album.
